With Jane & James Schindler-Ord

Jane is an experienced counsellor and trainer whose experience includes counselling in the NHS, for a local young person's charity and in private practice. James is a counsellor and psychotherapist who works with individuals and couples and a local young person's charity.

This introductory workshop is aimed at counsellors and trainee counsellors who would like to work with, or are already working with young people aged 11 to 18. We are then looking to extend this day into a full Diploma in working with Children and Young People qualification in 2017.

The day will include:

  • Looking at your own experience of adolescence
  • What it is like for a young person to come for counselling
  • What issues to expect – working with specific issues
  • What works – what doesn’t work, when working with young people
  • Aspects of counselling work with young people (including working with agencies, safeguarding, confidentiality, boundaries, families etc.)
  • Techniques and interventions that are helpful when working with young people (including the use of creative materials, CBT, timelines storytelling etc.)
  • Case studies
